WEST HOLLYWOOD, California, EE.UU. (AP) -- La saga de fantasía "Game of Thrones" ("Juego de tronos") encabezó con 24 candidaturas la lista de nominados a los Premios Emmy el jueves.
El drama no se vio afectado en las votaciones por la controversia que generó su representación de la violación de uno de sus personajes femeninos: consiguió cinco postulaciones más que el año pasado. Nuevamente compite por el premio a la mejor serie de drama, un premio que no ha ganado.
La academia de la TV dio un paso adelante para reconocer el talento cada vez más diverso de la TV, al nominar a las actrices negras Taraji P. Henson por "Empire" y Viola Davis por "How to Get Away with Murder".
De ganar alguna de ellas se haría historia en los Emmy, pues nunca se alzado con el premio a la actriz dramática una actriz afroamericana.
"¡Tengo que ganar! ¡Tengo que ganar para la historia!", dijo una exuberante Henson cuando se le preguntó sobre el prospecto durante una conferencia de "Empire" en mayo.
Sin embargo, la dos veces nominada Kerry Washington, de "Scandal", no figura en la lista este año.
También fueron desairados "Empire", que no fue incluida en el rubro de mejor serie de drama, y el astro de la serie Terrence Howard.
Los votantes favorecieron en vez a favoritos como el astro de "Mad Men" Jon Hamm, Kevin Spacey de "House of Cards" y el debutante Bob Odenkirk de "Better Call Saul", la precuela de la ya concluida "Breaking Bad".
Gina Rodríguez, la destacada estrella latina de "Jane the Virgin", no fue postulada pese a haber ganado un Globo de Oro por si actuación.
Entre los programas que tendrán una última oportunidad en los Emmy están la serie de drama "Mad Men", nominada por cuarta ocasión y que sería la más premiada en su categoría de llevarse una quinta estatuilla. Para su estelar papel de Don Draper, Hamm regresa tras siete candidaturas previas.
David Letterman, quien se retire de "Late Show", y Stephen Colbert, quien dejó "The Colbert Report" para suceder a Letterman a partir de septiembre, recibieron ambos candidaturas como anfitriones de sus antiguos de programas de tertulia.
La ceremonia de los Emmy se transmitirá en vivo por la cadena Fox el 20 de septiembre. Andy Samberg fungirá como anfitrión.
